On Creative Process
Essentially, after I read the script and view the entire film, ideas begin to flow. Then I sit down at the piano where my thoughts, bits and pieces of the melodies pop up and often the main theme will come to light. Next, I work on the soundboard and introduce the various orchestral instruments that will complete the score’s color palate. This process repeats itself throughout scoring the entire film. With music you look for substance not the superficial and you communicate a very telling emotional core that strongly resonates with the viewer. The creative process with the director is very personal, his or her vision is key to connecting the music with every scene in the film. This is what counts with me.
